5- Spend some quality time with your pets also reduce stress symptoms
Petting cats, dogs or any other furred and feathered friends is a proven stress-buster. Animals have a way of bringing out the best in us. Their presence is soothing and the unconditional love that they show us has a funny way of making all the myriad stresses and frustrations of the day just float away.
4- Practice mindfulness meditation
Don’t worry, you don’t need to spend several hours in the lotus position to be able to meditate. In fact, you don’t even need to be sitting down. Mindfulness meditation doesn’t require bending your body into uncomfortable positions. It simply requires you to spend a few minutes focusing on nothing but your breathing to reduce stress symptoms. You can do it for 5 minutes on your lunch break or even in the car.
Mindfulness meditation helps you to let go of all the day’s stress and slow down the frantic pace of your life. In an age where we have so much that is demanding our time and attention and seem to live every moment with our faces in an electronic device, it’s a great way of getting our pace and perspective back.
3- Hit the gym
After a long and frustrating day at work, the worst thing you can do is plant yourself on the couch. You need to find an outlet to blow off all that steam. And an intense workout is the best way to do that and very beneficial to reduce stress symptoms. Whether you prefer a cardio session, hitting the weights, or a combination of both, exercise floods your brain with endorphins which are amongst the most effective natural forms of stress relief.
We all know that proximity to trees, plants, fresh air and the other quotidian wonders of the natural world are great stress relievers. Why not combine this with the inherent stress relieving benefits of exercise by taking a brisk walk in the path? And if you have a pet that you can take with you? So much the better!
