What are bath bombs made out of?
Get ready for a pampering spa experience with deliciously fragrant bath bombs that will help you relax and unwind before bedtime. These water-grenades have been in trend since they first evolved in 1989, and for a good reason. They’re sanitizing, fragrant, vibrant, and they ignite an artistic cascade of glitter that takes you to an astounding utopia. But apart from the magical and fascinating charm of these products, what’s actually inside that bubbly substance you love to soak into?
Bath bombs are made up of natural ingredients like shea butter, essential oils, dead sea salt, cocoa butter, and vitamin E. The element that makes them effervesce is the same as a soluble aspirin tablet or Alka Seltzer: citric acid and sodium bicarbonate. These chemicals are available in the balls as dry powders, but they dissolve in water and the sodium bicarbonate reacts with citrate to form carbon dioxide and sodium citrate.
Once this reaction takes place, the bath bomb breaks apart and dissolves, releasing all the great stuff inside: from skin-smoothing emollients to scrumptious scents, which help to soften and hydrate your skin. The bath bomb will dissolve, and fill the water with essential nourishing oils, and supplementary items, such as colors, glitter, and flower petals. Besides, you can add dried flower buds to the mix to make the bath bombs look more attractive.
So, toss your lovely bath bomb into the tub and bask in aromatic heaven with the luxurious & fizzy night-in.

Scroll through your Instagram feed, and you’re bound to see many photos of beautiful bathtubs filled with glittery tie-dye liquid, thanks to dazzling and unicorn bath bombs. But as we soak in our tubs, lounging until our skin appears to prune, how are the glitter and dyes in these stylish products affecting our skin? Are they really safe?
Well, bath bombs are generally safe when used as directed. However, they shouldn’t be used without caution. The main distress is skin sensitivity to some of the key ingredients such as dyes and scents. As these water-grenades can enclose several fragrances, they can affect the good bacteria in the vagina. This can lead to inflammation and infections. Even if you don’t experience any inflammation, bath bombs may still disturb the PH balance of the vagina. This will increase your possibility of getting UTIs and thrush. Even natural scent obtained from plants, such as linalool and limonene, may lead to allergic dermatitis.
If your bath bomb is causing any sort of inflammation, you should immediately stop its use and consult your doctor.
